There's a leadership crisis happening across America and around the world. And it's the direct result of a crisis of creativity.
We've been saying it for years, but it's time to be more explicit:
Leadership and creativity are intrinsically linked.
In fact, all leaders do is create. If you’re not creating, you’re not leading.
Far too often, as leaders, we don't embrace our creativity because we've been told over and over that we aren't the "creatives."
And those of us who identify as the "creatives" experience constant conflict with "leaders."
But what if leadership and creativity are intertwined?
We reject the idea that there is a separate class for creators. That false narrative is holding back the leaders we need right now, and it's keeping them from rising up to meet today's challenges and create a better tomorrow.
A Bold Call for Creative Leadership
You see, because narrative drives all human behavior, every problem is a storytelling problem. Every solution begins with a new story.
We need a new kind of leadership. We need leaders who can 'create' the way out of our current crisis. And that kind of creative leadership starts with ourselves.
When we are leading ourselves well, we become better at leading others well. And as we lead others well, markets shift, cultures change, and movements take shape.
If we're going to solve some of the biggest problems we're facing as a nation and as a world, we're going to need leaders who will rise to the challenge.
We need leaders committed to growth at every level.

I went in as something of a mild skeptic. I came out challenged, inspired, grateful — feeling so much more equipped to embrace my own creative ability, the power of a collaborative community, and the broader narrative of justice and beauty that storytellers are engaged in worldwide.
I have never felt as inspired at a conference as I did at STORY. The speakers were a great mix of people from big name places and individuals out on a mission, which made the messages feel more tangible and applicable to my situation.
This conference was EVERYTHING. As graphic designers, creative consultants, and videographers, we are digital storytellers. This has directly impacted our day-to-day work.
The STORY Conference was worth every penny. My team left empowered and with new found purpose and direction. We now recognize when we’re in liminal space personally or professionally. It’s a really great thing to understand and explore.
STORY is a catalyst and a huge encouragement for my husband and me. Thank you for showing us the seeds of hope and the enormous life creativity can bring not just to moments but to generations.
It is the BEST conference I have ever attended by a million. It motivated me so much that 2 days later I wrote a book proposal that I’d been struggling with for four years.
